Residents Giving Back to Frasers Landing Community

When Ed Boyes and his wife Claire moved into Frasers Landing in August 2021, they found themselves more than a home; they’ve discovered a real community. We had a chat to them about their first eight months living at Frasers Landing, and what makes it so special.

What made you choose a home at Frasers Landing?

We had visited the area several years ago while we were looking for an investment property. We found a display home we really liked, bought it, and rented it out while we stayed in our family home in Canning Vale, finished our working lives. We had always thought it might be nice to retire down here, and here we are! The home has exceeded our expectations.

What do you love about living here?

It’s a very easy place to live in. You can see the values that Frasers Property puts into the estate; the harmonious building styles, the attention to the natural elements, the walkways that fit the environment. It’s all part of the charm of the estate. It feels private, yet it’s not gated. It’s very well maintained, it’s quiet, and it’s easy to walk around and enjoy the bushland and the birdlife.

We also love the location. Mandurah has everything you could want, we visit the restaurants there regularly, and the newly revamped Mandurah Forum is as good or better than any shopping centre in Perth. Everything is just a few minutes’ drive away – even Pinjarra is only a seven or eight-minute drive. And we really like that Frasers Landing is surrounded by water – the Serpentine River is at the edge of the estate, the estuary is nearby, and the ocean is only a couple of kilometres away.

How would you describe the Frasers Landing community?

It’s a wonderful community, and people can be as involved as they want to. We all recognise each other on our walks and when we say hello, it’s a genuinely friendly greeting. We don’t live in each other’s pockets, but we know each other. I feel strongly that it’s in all of our best interests to know our neighbours - like we used to! Claire and I are involved in the social aspect of our community; we attended a meeting early on and are now on the social committee. There are some exciting events coming up – a wine tasting, the regular Neighbour Day and Cuppa on the Common. We’ve renamed our local social committee ‘The Culture Vultures’ and we go to dinner, absorb the local culture and discuss the topics of the day. The community has also produced its first newsletter, Seasons, which will be available online at issuu.com.

What are your top picks for restaurants and cafes nearby?

Claire and I are foodies and we love eating out. We are very fortunate there is so much choice in and around Mandurah. My favourite cuisine is Japanese, and we frequent the Taku Japanese Kitchen restaurant on Mandurah Terrace - they do the best panko oysters! We also love the Mei Jing Chinese Restaurant and the Indian Chilli Masala restaurant. Flics Kitchen is another favourite, and the Ravenswood Hotel on the Murray River is an occasional experience, too.

What does a typical day at Frasers Landing look like for you and Claire?

I’m an early riser. I get up, have a coffee, get the paper and do the crossword, then water and potter in the garden. It’s a delight to watch the local wildlife and birdlife – parrots, families of 28s, willy wagtails, bandicoots and bobtails. We even see a local kangaroo hopping down the street from time to time! I often accompany Claire on her walks through the estate, it’s very beautiful. Then we’ll probably go out to dinner.

We really lucked out with this move. We love the house, we love the estate, and we love the location. Our retirement plan really worked out very well!
