The Brookhaven Wellness Series: Building a Healthier, Stronger Community in 2024

In 2024, the Brookhaven Wellness Series brought our community together with the goal of promoting a healthy mind, body, and soul. This quarterly event series has focused on fostering resilience and well-being to create a stronger and healthier neighbourhood. Throughout the year, residents have enjoyed various workshops, expert-led sessions, and engaging activities designed to inspire positive lifestyle changes.

The series kicked off in February with the “Feel Fabulous in February” initiative, a collaboration with local Natural Health Centre, Life Essence. This workshop series focused on self-care, encouraging participants to nurture their physical and mental health. Attendees engaged in yoga sessions, received nutrition tips, learned stress-relief massage routines, and explored the calming benefits of breathwork. It was an energizing start to a year dedicated to wellness.

As spring approached, we partnered with resident PT, Isacc Robb from Second Chance Health & Fitness, and resident Pilates instructor, Tia Morris from Reforma Wellness for our “Spring to a Better You” event. This workshop encouraged residents to get active and explore new fitness routines to kickstart a healthier lifestyle. From Pilates to outdoor fitness exercises, it was a fun and motivating session to help participants revitalize their bodies for the season ahead.

In June, Brookhaven supported “Loneliness Awareness Week”, with a focus on understanding why we feel lonely and how to combat it. In partnership with the Brookhaven Bean Café, we hosted a week-long series of casual gatherings, from morning chats over coffee to Mums & Bubs meet-ups. These events provided a space for residents to connect, build relationships, and combat social isolation, reinforcing the power of community.

We closed the year with a focus on personal growth and mental well-being in conjunction with “Mental Health Week”. In collaboration with Empowerment Self Defence training coach Antonella Spatola, we delved into the importance of fostering harmonious conversations within our personal lives and within the community. Participants learned practical tools and communication frameworks that can help enhance the way we connect with others—whether it’s a family member, colleague, neighbour, or partner. These valuable insights empowered residents to cultivate more meaningful and effective relationships, contributing to overall mental health and well-being.

Beyond the educational content, the Brookhaven Wellness Series has provided an incredible opportunity for like-minded residents to meet, connect, and share their wellness journeys. Whether you’re looking to improve your physical fitness, mental health, or simply want to connect with others in a meaningful way, these quarterly events have helped make our community stronger, healthier, and more resilient.
