Project Update November 2024

03 December 2024

Dear residents and community members,

As we tick down the weeks to the festive season, we’re once again on the lookout for the best decorated home, with our Christmas Lights Competition now open for registration.

It’s a fabulous opportunity to showcase your creativity and Christmas spirit and we can’t wait to see what our community comes up with. There’s a link for registration in the table below.

Food Truck Fridays have returned with the warmer weather. You'll find a variety of food vans at the Sales Centre car park on the first Friday of each month from 5pm to 8pm.

A builder is now onsite for the new Wallara Waters state primary school and kindergarten. The Victorian School Building Authority’s website has some indicative renders of elements of the primary school for those interested in seeing what to expect.

The sale of land to the Mitchell Shire Council for the future Wallan East Family and Children’s centre is close to finalisation, and Council has completed its consultation process about what programs and activities the community would like to see at the centre, which is expected to open in 2026.

In other great news for Wallara Waters families, we’re advised a development application for a new Wallaby Childcare centre will be lodged with council shortly. The centre, on the corner of Wallara Waters Blvd and Newbridge Blvd, is proposed to open in mid-2026, subject to council approval.

The respected family owned and operated childcare group have seven centres throughout Melbourne.

We are still awaiting advice from Melbourne Water on a possible redesign of our wetlands area and are unable to proceed until we receive it. In the meantime, we have tidied and grassed the area and will maintain it while we continue to press Melbourne Water for direction.

In October we were pleased to partner with adult education organisation PRACE to offer their Women in the Driver’s Seat program for women embarking on getting their driver’s licence. The course, which also covered basic car maintenance, was held in the Sales Centre and several Wallara Waters residents attended. This program also provided a work opportunity for a Wallara Waters resident.

We hope to offer more adult education opportunities at the Sales Centre in 2025 so please use the link below if you have any suggestions for topics you’d be interested in.

Also in October, we enjoyed seeing ‘Trick or Treaters Welcome Here’ signs dotted through our streets on Halloween. The signs were available for free at our sales centre and helped little lolly hunters identify their targets.

As this is the final update for 2024, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas and restful end-of-year break.

If you live outside Wallara Waters but would like to receive updates by email, please sign up at https://www.frasersproperty.com.au/VIC/Wallara-Waters/Contact-Us/Enquire-Now or contact us on 13 38 38.

Community Centre

Mitchell Shire Council

The land for the future $11.6 million Wallan East Family and Children Centre is close to being sold to the Mitchell Shire Council. Council has concluded its community consultation on the types of activities and programs community members would like for the new centre, with the next step the appointment of a builder and construction. The centre is expected to open in 2026.

Wallaby Childcare

Wallaby Childcare advise us they are on track to lodge a development application for their new centre with council shortly. Subject to council approval they estimate opening the centre, located on the corner of Wallara Waters Blvd and Newbridge Blvd, in mid-2026.

Proposed Retail/ Commercial

Mondous Property Australia

No status change: Per our previous communications, the future proposed town centre is contingent on a number of factors including population thresholds, economic conditions, tenant demand and Mondous Property’s own requirements. This remains unchanged from our previous update.

Sales

Frasers Property Australia and Mondous Property Australia

We have very limited remaining lots in stage 13, stage 16 and stage 22. These lots range from 400sqm to 486 sqm and are priced between $345,000 and $410,000.

Macsfield Road Northern Highway Intersection

Frasers Property Australia and Mondous Property Australia

An additional road connection is planned in the southern section of Wallara Waters which includes a new bridge over the Hume Freeway.

The designs for the Macsfield Rd signalised intersection have now been approved by the Department of Transport.

The next steps are to plan the construction schedule, which involves consultation with adjoining landowners, currently underway.

Hume Freeway Bridge

Frasers Property Australia and Mondous Property Australia

As per direction from the Department of Transport, the Hume Freeway Bridge cannot commence construction until the intersection works are complete.

We are in discussions with prospective contractors. Once the final design has been approved by the Department of Transport and intersection works are complete, demolition of the existing bridge can commence.

A contract will be executed following the finalisation of the intersection works contract.

Taylors Creek and wetlands system

Melbourne Water and Frasers Property Australia and Mondous Property Australia

Following the letter we sent our customers in June, we’ve had no further information from Melbourne Water about any new plans for the wetlands system at Wallara Waters.

As we said in June, Melbourne Water is reviewing its strategy for the Merri Creek catchment as a result of rapid population growth and that means our planned wetlands area may need to be redesigned. As Melbourne Water cannot advise when their review will be complete, we can’t advise you when it is likely we will be able to proceed with redesigning our project.

In the meantime we have tidied and grassed the area and are focusing on maintenance to improve its appearance while we await instruction from Melbourne Water.

Hume Freeway ‘on’ and ‘off’ ramps at Watson Street

Victorian Department of Transport

Planning works are still underway to upgrade the Watson Street interchange at the Hume Freeway. The State Government completed its community and business feedback consultation in August, with environmental investigation, Cultural Heritage Management Plan and the appointment of a contractor still to come. For more information you can track progress here on the Major Roads Projects Victoria website: https://bigbuild.vic.gov.au/projects/mrpv/watson-street-interchange

Christmas Lights Competition

We will be hosting the Wallara Waters Christmas Lights Competition again this year and registration is now open. Last year there were some wonderful displays throughout the community, showcasing creativity and festive spirit, which transformed Wallara Waters into a Christmas wonderland! It’s clear that the sense of community and Christmas cheer was strong and we’re looking forward to seeing what residents come up with this year.

Food Truck Fridays

The warmer weather means Food Truck Fridays have returned, with a variety of food vans appearing at the Sales Centre carpark on the first Friday of each month from 5pm to 8pm.

Women in the Driver’s Seat Adult Education

Last month we partnered with adult education organization PRACE to bring their Women in the Driver’s Seat program to Wallara Waters. The program was held in the Sales Centre with a group of very keen women working on obtaining their driver’s license. In addition, they received information on basic car maintenance. We were thrilled to see that a number of the participants were from Wallara Waters, as was one of the staff. We hope to bring more adult education opportunities to Wallara Waters in 2025.

Halloween

Halloween this year saw Trick or Treaters scouring the streets looking for delicious sweets and getting into the spirit of Halloween, and we were happy to give away ‘Trick or Treaters Welcome Here’ signs for the community to collect from the sales centre.
