New schools underway at Berwick Waters
Construction to deliver two new Victorian Government schools by the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA), positioned within Clyde North’s Berwick Waters community by Frasers Property Australia, has commenced.
The yet-to-be-named primary school and secondary school is due to open for Term One next year. The interim school names will soon be updated with First Nations names, with the naming process already underway in close consultation with Traditional Owner groups. The community will be invited to help choose the two school names via the Engage Victoria website.
Clyde North Primary School (interim name), on Macumba Drive, will offer places for up to 900 students when the school is complete, and will accept enrolments from Prep to Grade 6.
Kristy Miller, an educator with over 15 years of experience and a commitment to student development, has been named the school’s principal.
Clyde North Secondary School (interim name), on Soldiers Road, will be able to accommodate up to 800 students on completion of the first stage of the school. It will accept only Grade 7 students in its first year of operation, progressing by year level thereafter.
Leanne Winfield has been announced as the school’s principal. With a career spanning 30 years, Leanne is passionate about reading, writing, literacy and teacher development.
School facilities will include an administration building, community hub and learning neighbourhoods, as well as hardcourts, a carpark and a sports field. Hutchinson Builders have been appointed to construct the schools.
The schools will add to the excellent education options in close proximity to the Frasers Property Australia community. The already established facilities include the adjacent Hillcrest Christian College and Grayling Primary School and nearby St Catherine’s Primary School, Berwick Chase Primary School, Alkira Secondary College and St Francis Xavier College.
Monash University’s Berwick Campus is 5km from Berwick Waters.
Sarah Bloom, General Manager Development Victoria, Frasers Property Australia, said the two new schools would add to the amenity and convenience of Berwick Waters.
“Many of our residents will be within easy walking distance of these new facilities, and the fact they’ll include hardcourts and a sports field on completion will only add to the outdoor lifestyle we’re building in this community,” she said.
Other family friendly construction underway at Berwick Waters includes Tree Walk Park, a landmark 1.3ha space featuring a canopy walk weaving through the tops of mature trees, barbecue area, toilets, nature-based inclusive playground and fixed fitness equipment.
More than 4,000 residents already call Berwick Waters home, which when complete will include 50 ha of parks and open space comprising extensive wetlands, 9km of bike and walking paths with more than half already complete, barbecue areas, playgrounds and sporting fields.
The already-complete amenity at Berwick Waters includes the Grand Prix Playground, with its loop racing track for scooters, bikes and skateboards, mini trampolines and flying fox. The number of playgrounds at Berwick Waters will total five on completion.
Berwick Waters will eventually house approximately 7,000 residents in 2,700 homes.
