Shell Cove Waterfront precinct works begin

05 August 2019

Following their appointment last month, Duffy Kennedy Constructions today commenced construction of The Waterfront restaurant and promenade precinct at Shell Cove.

This major milestone represents the start of construction of the Aqua apartments, waterfront restaurants and promenade, all to be completed in mid-2021, as well a new connection between the existing Town Centre and the boat harbour.

Councillor Marianne Saliba, Mayor of Shellharbour City Council, says the restaurant and promenade precinct will become the beating heart of the entire Shell Cove vision.

“This section of the project will be the centrepiece of The Waterfront, Shell Cove. Everyone who visits our new regional tourism destination will be drawn to this precinct with its spectacular outlook over the boat harbour, relaxing harbourside restaurants and connection along Cove Boulevarde,” says Cr Saliba.

“This new precinct will provide a wonderful amenity for our own community as well as attract visitors, boost our economy and encourage job growth. At least 200 jobs are expected to be created with the construction of this stage, including local tradespeople, services and suppliers.

“The start of construction of this phase of the development marks a major milestone in Council’s delivery of this project and I am proud of the continual progress we are making.

“Construction of The Town Square Water Play area, including public art and landscaping, will commence on site in the next fortnight, with completion planned in time for summer for families to enjoy.

“With work now also underway on the waterfront restaurant and promenade, the community can really see The Waterfront, Shell Cove vision becoming a reality,” says Cr Saliba.

Simone Dyer, Development Director – Shell Cove, Frasers Property Australia says construction is at its highest level yet on the project with five major construction contracts currently underway.

“Within the boat harbour itself, Walcon Marine is well underway with the construction of the marina piles in the inner harbour, with piling work to begin in the outer harbour later in the year.

“Coastwide Civil is finalising work on the breakwall and groyne as well as undertaking civil works for the next land lots release which will also include the platform for the boat maintenance facility and dry boat storage, and the boat ramp car park.

“Work is also now well underway on the next retail stage on Cove Boulevarde across the road from the existing Town Centre, with completion expected in November this year,” says Ms Dyer.

A focal point of the new community will be the 270-berth Shellharbour Marina next to the lively Town Centre, featuring a retail precinct anchored by a Woolworths supermarket and specialty shops, restaurants on the marina’s edge, waterfront tavern, hotel, children’s beach, water play areas, library and community centre.
