Spring. The perfect time to hit the walking trails!

01 October 2021

Nature really is at its best at this time of year. The warmer weather not only has the flora and fauna jumping and buzzing, but people everywhere are starting to venture out and hit the parks and beaches for their daily fix of sunshine and nature.

At Baldivis Grove, we are fortunate to have so much nature, and opportunities to enjoy it, right on our doorstep, from bush reserves to wetlands and the coastline.

Have you discovered the Baldivis Nature Reserve Trail yet? It’s a popular 2km walking trail through remnant natural bushland, including jarrah, sheoak and banksia trees. It starts at the Baldivis Recreation Centre and you can get more details at here.

Also close by is the Baldivis Children’s Forest Trail, a 2km walk within a unique 49ha public reserve containing tuart woodlands and a conservation category wetland. Local schoolchildren have been involved in the creation of the Forest, planting native plants to help provide a safe habitat for native animals, reptiles, and birds. For a detailed explanation of the trail, click here.

Other local walks and trails include the Tramway Reserve Trail, the Steel Tree Walk (a great local walk perfect for young families), Lark Hill Nature Reserve, and the Delphinus Trail at Lake Richmond in Shoalwater.

You can find details of these walking trails - along with a whole lot more - on the City of Rockingham website. This is dedicated to local walk trails and walking groups - and a few running groups! So, it’s worth a look. There's a reason why walking is one of the most popular forms of activity in Australia. Mostly because almost, anyone can do it! It helps reduce stress and makes us stronger and healthier - best of all, it’s free and doesn’t require any special equipment!

It can also be a strong social connector. The same web page lists several free Heart Foundation walking groups available for community members to join around Baldivis, including the Baldivis Pole Walking Group and the Baldivis Walking Group. They welcome new members, so now that spring is here, there are no excuses!

So - put a spring in your step, don a sun hat and head out for a walk while you connect with nature - you’ll feel so better for it!
