Introducing Laa Yulta Primary School
The start of the school year brings new beginnings, but Laa Yulta Primary School in Mambourin will have a unique set of firsts when it opens on January 31, 2024. This new institution, formerly known as Black Forest East Primary School, has been renamed "Laa Yulta" following a thoughtful two-week community consultation. The name, meaning "many stones" in the Wadawurrung language, honors the rich indigenous heritage of the land.
Laa Yulta, led by principal Mark Zhara, is dedicated to providing top-tier education from Prep to Grade 6. With 200 students and a capacity for 650, the school boasts state-of-the-art facilities including a modern administration building, three learning neighborhoods, and a bustling community hub with indoor sports courts, a canteen, and arts/music spaces. Zhara, who previously led a century-old school, looks forward to building a community hub from the ground up.
