'Clever layout': Construction begins at Ed.Square
Milli Valle Rodriguez had always been curious about what the structures were at the corner of Soldiers Parade and Campbelltown Road. Turns out it was the Ed.Square's sales centre.
Some online searching and a free coffee in the cafe later and the 30-year-old will soon have a structure of her own.
Milli and fiance Jean Carlos (JC) Wong Davila joined other future residents as construction began on the first 184 residential townhomes at Frasers Property Australia's new community at Edmondson Park on Tuesday.
Liverpool councillor Nathan Hagarty, who was representing Liverpool mayor Wedny Waller, turned the first sod at the mixed-use community which is being built by local company Growthbuilt.
Growthbuilt will construct a strata housing including 156 townhomes, 14 terracestyle homes and 14 urban lofts with private parking.
Construction of the first 184 homes is expected to take 18 months with approximately 200 jobs expected to be created.
Ms Waller says Ed.Square is a good addition to the "rich and varied" fabric of lifestyle offerings the area.
"We have distinct suburbs, a recognisable CBD, semi-rural and new-release areas," she said. "This new town centre at Ed.Square offers a truly urban living experience putting jobs, people and public transport together."
Frasers Property Australia Development Director Warwick Dowler said Ed.Square has a wide range of affordable home designs for under $750,000 integrated with a contemporary town square.
"Ed.Square will bring inner city lifestyle to Sydney's south-west," Mr Dowler says. "Residents can expect a buzzing town centre with regular entertainment, fresh food marketplace, Event Cinemas and a smorgasbord of culinary choices all within walking distance from these sustainable homes.
"To date, we have sold a total of 325 apartments and townhomes at Ed.Square and despite the current subdued market, we continue to generate steady sales."
After looking at the Madison and Lexington designs, Milli and JC purchased a three-bedroom Brighton home with an extra family room for $810,000. They are expect to move into their new home in late 2020, after their wedding in April.
"The main reason we were drawn to the community was how much outside space there is. We thought the homes and the town centre had really clever layout ideas and Ed.Square is the most convenient location," Milli said.
"We really liked the easy access to the motorways and the train station. They had finished the Woollies already which was great, and they have already brought in the on-demand buses.
"As we investigated further, we realised just how environmentally friendly our new home is and what it meant for the Ed.Square community.
"Our new home has geothermal heating and cooling and dual plumbing among other awesome features. We think the design is really with the times and moving in the right direction."
Milli said she loved the green spaces, the outdoor and the fact it will be a "walkable community."
"It's nice to have our own outdoor spaces and home and then be able to mingle with the wider community to get to know who lives with us," she said.
The first stage of the Ed.Square Town Centre is set to be completed in the second half of 2020, coinciding with the first residents moving in. Stage two will include up to an additional 15,000 square metres, bringing the total retail space to 40,000 square metres, including an additional 60 shops. Ed.Square has a range of one, two and three bedroom townhomes.
